Ambassador and host of NPR’s JazzSet, Dee Dee Bridgewater focuses her talents on material immortalized by the enigmatic Billie Holiday. Bridgewater received the 2011 Grammy® for “Best Jazz Vocal Album” for  Eleanora Fagan (1915-1959): To Billie with Love from Dee Dee. In her Town Hall performance she  delves into the broad-ranging repertoire she explored during her “Laurence Olivier” nominated theatrical portrayal of the legendary singer. As one of the most lauded vocalists of our time, Dee Dee Bridgewater brings her considerable talent and precise interpretations to the renowned songs that have endured to become timeless classics.

Grammy Award winning R&B vocalist Chrisette Michele will return to her roots in a homecoming opening performance at the Town Hall to pay tribute to three jazz icons she credits as her biggest influences: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. Backed by her own jazz trio, Chrisette plans to add her own R&B flavor to the standards made famous by Ella, Billie and Sarah. She’ll also be scatting solos throughout, a craft she studied diligently as a youth and through higher education. Her three releases, all on the Def Jam label, are unmistakably R&B records, but have hinted at her love for jazz in her style and even in her lyrics. At the age of 28, she’s already made a name for herself, winning a Grammy Award for her ’09 song “Be Ok.” Her Town Hall debut marks her professional foray into the world of jazz, where she should be welcomed with open arms.
