JazzReach Educational Programs
*Highline Ballroom* ~ Showtime: 10:00am & 12:00pm
JazzReach, Inc. in collaboration with the BLUE NOTE JAZZ FESTIVAL, will present a total of 6 matinee performances of its all-new educational program “ELLINGTON!” for New York City Public School Students, JUNE 1-3, 2011 at the HIGHLINE BALLROOM.
Targeting young audiences in grades 3-6, “ELLINGTON!” is a highly immersive, live multi-media educational program that aims to illuminate the rich, vital legacy of the great composer, pianist and bandleader, Duke Ellington. One of the most innovative, prolific, celebrated musicians in music history, Ellington’s canon is a timeless, highly personal aural account of both the human condition and African-American experience of the 20th Century. Through the creative integration of live music (provided by JazzReach’s esteemed resident ensemble, METTA QUINTET), video projections and live narration, “ELLINGTON!” introduces new, young audiences to a wide variety of Ellington’s broad array of musical achievements, from hit songs to blues riffs to extended suites, and scores for stage and screen.
“ELLINGTON!” was commissioned by and successfully premiered at the Robert Ferst Center for Performing Arts in February, 2011.
