Rosa Passos is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and guitarist from Salvador (Bahia), the coastal town that gave birth to some of the greatest names of Brazilian music such as Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa or the most legendary of them all – João Gilberto. Rosa has actually been called a “female João Gilberto” – a compliment she takes very seriously since he was one of her greatest influences growing up, leading her to trade in her piano for an acoustic guitar. A singer and songwriter with a long career, Rosa Passos has recorded with Yo-Yo Ma, Ron Carter, Paquito d’Rivera, Henri Salvador, Ivan Lins and Chico Buarque. Her latest album “Samba Dobrado” is a tribute to one of the finest contemporary Brazilian singers, Djavan.
Beyond the Bossa Nova label, Rosa Passos is a peculiar good interpreter of Brazilian Popular Music with jazz improvisation ability, demanding quality music with harmony and melody to the music “deitar e rolar”. “She sings with the volume of bossa nova, division of jazz and excitement of MPB (Brasilian Popular Music).
