Revive Music Presents: Late Nights at Blue Note with “Blue Swamini”
@ Blue Note Jazz Club – Show @ 12:30AM (Doors @ 12AM)
The title Blue Swamini serves as an homage to the great Alice Coltrane as well as a description of the intent behind the music. Mrs. Coltrane was a swami herself, which is an ascetic or yogi who has been initiated in the monastic order. The blue aspect of the name reflects the emotional quality of this group of musicians as well as the specific sound of this combination of instruments.
A young NYC supergroup, this band brings together two alternative instruments commonly used to replace the piano player. Brandee Younger and Joel Ross, on harp and vibes respectively, are the two most innovative musicians in their class when it comes to these under-represented instruments.
Kassa Overall sets the foundation providing an individual drum voice as well as afro-futurist electronics. Linda Oh is a one of a kind bassist that approaches modern, forward thinking music with grace and lyricism.
This is a band with extreme potential to create new music that today’s listener is desperately seeking.
